In many countries, race distances are measured in kilometers (5K, 10K), while training devices might be set to miles. Following a training plan written in a different unit system — or moving between countries — means constant conversion that should never distract you from the actual workout.

A 5:00 min/km pace is exactly 8:02.9 min/mi, not 8:00. Over a marathon, that difference compounds significantly. Speed conversions matter for treadmill runners who track their workouts in km/h or mph. A treadmill set to 10 km/h corresponds to a 6:00 min/km pace, or about 16.1 seconds per 100 metres.
